Greetings,
Roma at MESSINA
I'll start off with a simple one, or rather, a straight forward one. I will take a stab in guessing that many will be jumping on this one; not only those on the Italian books, but many on the british books will be pounding this game. Roma has no choice but to continue to win, as they will continue to chase the record setting Inter, 3-1 winners today. Following the 2-1 win over Parma in Coppa Italia, Spalletti has admitted that his side has a tendency to let the defensive guard down when sporting confortable leads against weak opponents (evidence of the garbage goal conceded to Parma at 87+ minute). Messina is a bad team with an attitude. Win or lose, they have shown lots of grit on home turf matches. They are tough and will no doubt play that way in front of a truly loyal fan base. Do they have sufficient talent, and drive for that matter, to upset Roma ? No, plain and simple. Can't see no other reason but to side with Roma, who should be focused and capable of a realistic 2-nil win.
The play: Roma -1 +107 (6 units)
Livorno at ATALANTA
Much in common among these two teams. Each is capable of scoring and winning on home turf. On the road, totally different behaviour. This is especially so for Livorno, who have conceded 20 goals (second only to Catania). Neither of the two is playing well and each is truly desperate for a win. Both are rested, so who knows what will happen. If this match was taking place prior to the X-mas break, I would have dropped a load on the over (as I have already mentioned, the first 3 weeks are full of surprises). Still, a decent opportunity for an over,
The play: Livorno OVER 2 and 2.5 -119 (6 units)
Ascoli at CAGLIARI
Ascoli is such a brutal road team (0W-2D-7L), that even Cagliari - with only two wins in the first 18 games - is favoured to win. Typically, when teams such as these face eachother, you have a recepy for the unexpected.
Dangerous as it may seem:
The play: Cagliari OVER 2 and 2.5 -108 (4.5 units)
Catania at CHIEVO
As brutal as Catania is on the road, they should not be underdog to a team like Chievo. Enough offense in Catania to exploit Chievo's inconsistent defense. A win here will go a long way for Catania, who will come home after this one for two straight.
The play:Catania pk and +0.5 +111 (4.5 units)
Ma says: The first weeks of the second leg are highly unpredictable. For those considering one or two plays in Serie A, consider Roma at -1, and the Livorno over. The Lazio / Siena game?....will wait and see.....
Good luck,
MA
